What a fun summer we have had at Hummingbirds!

Our show at the end of last month was FANTASTIC and we would like to thank all of the families for coming and making it a real event! We hope that you all like your t-shirts and that we will see you wearing them in the future! We wish the best of luck to our school leavers for September when you join Reception.

We have been making the most of the weather and playing outside as much as possible. The sand tray and figures have become a firm favourite so we have some ideas to evolve it into small world play, with lots of different textures and elements. With the younger group starting in September we are going to focus on sensory play, fine motor skills and communication.

We are great believers in learning through play and having very informal lessons. So, we have a new toy... A parachute!!!! It is a fantastic tool for the younger children to practise colours and as a group we can focus on improving team work, cooperation and more importantly have great fun. All of Alison’s big children were very jealous when it arrived in the post and we think that there might be some core memories (to quote Disney Pixar’s Inside Out!) to be made playing with this… We have lots of games to play and we’ve already mastered throwing it up then running to swap positions - which is more difficult than it sounds. The children can look forward to it having plenty of use in the future.

We hope everyone is looking forward to the preschool lessons starting back on the 3rd September, we are! It’s been really lovely to have the older brothers and sisters come and play with us over the last few weeks, we hope you have all enjoyed it as much as we have.

Love from

Alison and Nat x
